India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane once again failed to make an impact playing in the middle order for India. He was dismissed for 1 run by James Anderson early on day two of the second test match at Lord’s.
Ajinkya Rahane came in to bat last evening when Virat Kohli was dismissed for 42. On the very first delivery that he faced this morning, Rahane poked at it and edged it to Joe Root in slips, who took a brilliant low catch. This was Rahane’s fifth single-digit score in the last ten innings in test cricket. In the first test match, a brilliant direct hit from Jonny Bairstow ended his stay at the crease after scoring five runs.

Ajinkya Rahane was the leading run-scorer for India in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship. But since the last few innings, he has been woefully out of form. This year, he averages 19.21 in fourteen innings, scoring just 269 runs. Since his Hundred at Melbourne, Rahane has just one fifty.
The Mumbai batsman faced severe criticism before the start of the match for his inconsistency. But skipper Virat Kohli backed his deputy to make a stronger comeback. Though Ajinkya Rahane has still one innings left in this test, the right-hander will be under serious pressure to keep his place in the side.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal:
Former England cricketer Nick Compton wrote, “Poor Rahane looks very out of form, changed his setup”

Sports Broadcaster Raunak Kapoor pointed out Ajinkya Rahane’s inconsistent run at the International level. He wrote:
“Rahane is a baffling batter to understand. Gets a match defining hundred when you least expect it, and then just goes completely missing. Fair to say you’d expect a lot more from someone who has played 75+ Tests. #ENGvIND”

Ajinkya Rahane remained not out for a day. Can't ask for more. #Engvind

I understand Rahane rates Anderson very highly. But he seems to be under some spell while facing him. Good outswinger and a nervous poke.

Ajinkya Rahane is fighting demons in his mind at the moment. Very difficult to be in his shoes at the moment. #Rahane #ENGvsIND

Rahane, Pujara and veterans in poor form. Always a tough decision to make… trust them to come good or go with younger talents. Given their current form, might be worth taking a punt on the latter option.

Rahane's struggles in England, just like Pujara's, continues. The two have been walking wickets in Old Blighty over 3 tours and their lack of runs is really hurting India #ENGvsIND

Rahane did his job…..of being a night watchman.

Ajinkya Rahane 1(23) really needs a big score soon to get his confidence back. He has been India's most reliable batsman with top knocks: case in point a ton at MCG in 2020 & a fine match-winning century at Lord's in 2014. Has averaged only 26 in 22 Test innings since 2020
