Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja feels that the Indian team will defeat England in the ongoing test match.

India bowled England out for 303, on the back of a fine performance from their pacers. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a fifer – his sixth five-wicket haul in test matches. Mohammad Shami and Shardul Thakur bagged two wickets each. India is chasing a target of 209 runs in the fourth innings. Opener KL Rahul is back in the hut. At the end of day four, the visitors are 52 for one, needing 157 more runs to gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match test series.

Speaking on Sony Sports, Ajay Jadeja stated that the match is in India’s pocket. He said,

“Of course, the game is in your (India’s) pocket. The team has put in the effort, there is no doubt about that. At one stage it seemed that instead of 209, we might have to score 260. Then Jasprit Bumrah did his magic and you got the whole session back.”

“Even in the last session because the target was 209, the England team went after you. If it had been the morning session, hardly 25-30 would have been scored even if you were no loss, but here you took the bonus of 25-30 runs, which has made a huge difference,” Jadeja further added.

Ajay Jadeja also highlighted that depth in India’s batting line-up gives them an advantage.

“This Indian team does not leave anyone till No.8. Even Shardul Thakur can score runs. So these 157 runs, we will see how the game unfolds, but whatever understanding I have, it is in your (India’s) pocket,” said Ajay Jadeja.

The match is 70-30 in India’s favor: Mohammad Kaif

The Indian team will resume Day 5 with nine wickets in hand to chase down the target of 209. Mohammad Kaif feels that the match is tilted in India’s favour given their strong batting line-up. He said,

“India has a lot of batting. I will say 70-30 because these two batsmen, and then after that Kohli, Rahane, Rishabh Pant – the match will not be over till he gets out however bad you play, and then Jadeja. The Indian batting is quite strong but the current partnership will not want to leave the runs for the other batsmen.”
