Umesh Yadav dismissing Joe Root for 21 on Day 1 of the third Test at the Oval remains one of the highlights of the match so far. Root scored three back to back centuries in the series before falling for 21 in the first innings of the Oval Test. Umesh was a welcome addition into the team as he broke through the England top-order to give India the advantage on day 1.
Addressing a virtual press conference at the end of day 2’s play, Umesh Yadav said
“This is a very common question I face whenever I get a big wicket. As a fast bowler wickets are important for me be it Joe Root or Robinson. So, I think as a fast bowler picking up a wicket is more important be it any player. That is it for me.”
On the third morning, Umesh dismissed Craig Overton and Dawid Malan to put India on the front foot. However, Ollie Pope scored 81 and added two fifty-plus stands with Jonny Bairstow (37) and Moeen Ali (35) to take England past 250. Chris Woakes then scored a quick-fire 50 himself to back his four wickets to taken England to 290 in the first innings. The hosts took a 99-run lead before they were bowled out.
MASSIVE moment in the day as Umesh Yadav sneaks one past Root’s forward defence to disturb the woodwork.

We Leaked A Few Runs After Taking Five Early Wickets: Umesh Yadav
When asked during a virtual press conference where India went wrong after reducing England to 62-5, Yadav admitted their performance dipped.
“You can say that. The way we started our bowling – we took two wickets within the first 40 minutes. After that, I thought our performance dipped as we leaked around 40 runs in seven or eight overs.”
This is Yadav’s first Test since the Melbourne Test match which ruled him out of the Australia series during the first edition of the World Test Championship. He spoke about how the physio’s worked hard with him to get him match fit again.
“You will always be a part of the team and you are always practising or training in the nets so the rhythm is always there. Moreover the trainers and physios know that you might get an opportunity anytime so they make sure to keep you in that particular zone always by making you work hard and ensure you are in the rhythm” said Umesh.
