The marquee India vs England Test clash finally began at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Indian bowlers dominated on day 1 and Indian batters did an amazing job to help India get the lead. Meanwhile Cricket expert and commentator David Lloyd expressed his displeasure on the incident which took place in the first Test.
During the Day 3 of the first Test, there was a passing shower due to which the game was interrupted. However, the rain was very light and cricketers could have easily continued playing. Still, Indian keeper batsmen KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant said umpire Michael Gough they wanted to take a break. However, pacer James Anderson stopped this from happening and the play was resumed.
Meanwhile, after this incident, David Lloyd in a column for The Daily Mail expressed his disappointment. As he believes umpires should decide whether the play should continue or not.
“Who is running this game? The umpires or the players? We had a squally shower come over Trent Bridge that clearly wasn’t going to last long but India refused to bat. Michael Gough was just letting them walk off until Jimmy Anderson intervened and they carried on. It’s not his job! The umpires need to be much, much firmer,” David Lloyd wrote.
One distinguished person in cricket told me Dom Sibley is not even the best opener at Warwickshire : David Llyod
England’s top-order batting unit has come under the scanner. Notably, England’s top order has looked fragile for quite some time now. The top-order unit once again faced a lot of struggle against the Indian bowling unit in the first Test match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. England lost the opener, Rory Burns, on the very first over of the match. Also, England was bowled out at the score of just 183.
While discussing England’s top order David Lloyd said he came to know that Dom Sibley is not even the best opener from his own county of Warwickshire. Llyod suggested England to look for other opening options available in the country.
“There will be a debate about England’s top order and we’ve been looking at what’s around the county circuit. One distinguished person in cricket told me Dom Sibley is not even the best opener at Warwickshire. Step forward, Rob Yates. And closer to the team Haseeb Hameed is emerging from the most almighty doldrums. He will get his chance again,” David Lloyd signed off.
