The first test match between England and India is underway at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The match has witnessed several stoppages due to rain. Dinesh Karthik who is part of the commentary group for the series is back on duty as a ‘weatherman’.
The middle-order batsman shared weather updates during the ICC World Test Championship final between India and New New Zealand. He took to Twitter to update the fans about today’s weather forecast for Nottingham. Karthik wrote about the weather, “Looks like rain will again play the role of spoiler today.”

As things stand, we are in for another rain-affected day. Most of the day will be cloudy with showers are expected after the lunch session.
India in the driver’s seat
The Indian team managed to take a 95-run lead in the first innings. Opener KL Rahul, in his comeback innings for India in test matches, scored 84 runs off 214 balls. He kept batting from one end, as the Indian middle-order collapsed from the other. Ravindra Jadeja also played a fine hand of 56 runs off 86 deliveries. For England, Veteran James Anderson and Ollie Robinson took five-wicket and four-wicket hauls respectively.
Earlier on day 1, India bowled England out for 183. Captain Joe Root was the lone fighter in England’s inning with 64 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bagged a four-wicket haul, while Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets. At stumps on Day three, England was 25 for no loss.
Speaking at the end of day’s play, India’s top run-scorer so far in the match, KL Rahul highlighted the importance of the 95-run lead. He said,
“Yes, obviously, the first innings lead is very important for us. After bowling so well and dismissing them for 180, as batters, our role was to cover the target, and then [we knew] whatever runs we score above that will be good for our team, will be the cushion for our bowlers, and will put us ahead of the game.”
