Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has highlighted India’s selection dilemma ahead of the second T20I against England on Saturday, July 9 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Several Indian players, who were rested for the first T20I, are back in the team for the remaining two games. India registered a convincing victory in the first T20I by fifty runs on Thursday at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Ahead of the second T20I, veteran cricketer Virat Kohli along with Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah will be available for selection. This has left the Indian management in dilemma to accommodate the senior players in the playing XI. In a video on his Youtube channel, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra highlighted the selection headache. He said,
“Virat Kohli is back, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are also available. Whom will you play and whom will you leave out in this match because no one did a bad job in the last match. You want to bring Kohli at No. 3 but if Kohli comes, who will go out?”
The former cricketer also expressed that India might take the easy route and stick with their winning combination. Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has proved his worth in the shortest format for India. He is likely to retain their place in the team for the second match.
In place of Whom will Rishabh Pant Play?, asks Aakash Chopra
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that the Indian team will not interfere with the opening combination. He stated that Ishan Kishan, who could not do much in the last game, is likely to continue at the top with Rohit Sharma.
Aakash Chopra further raised questions about Deepak Hooda’s place if Virat Kohli comes back into the squad. He also expressed that Shreyas Iyer will have to sit out with the senior players coming back in. However, Chopra believes that the bigger dilemma will be to fit Rishabh Pant into the playing XI.
“So that means Virat Kohli at three, so where will Deepak Hooda bat, will he play or not? That is a big big question. I don’t see Shreyas Iyer playing although let’s be honest, he played very well against Sri Lanka. In place of whom will Rishabh Pant play? This is a really really tough one,” said Aakash.
