Team India skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive for the covid-19 virus on Saturday, June 25 as per the result of a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). This has put his participation in the upcoming fifth rescheduled Test match against England in jeopardy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the news through their social media handles. Rohit Sharma is currently in isolation under the care of the BCCI medical team. He may have to spend at least a week in isolation and test negative multiple times to join back the Indian squad.

Notably, Rohit Sharma did not bat for India on day three of the ongoing warm-up match against Leicestershire. In the first innings, he scored 25 runs off 47 balls, including three boundaries.

The Indian skipper was the leading run-scorer for India last year in England, slamming a century and two fifties. It will be a huge blow for the Indian team if he misses out on the fifth Test match.

Let’s take a look at how fans reacted:

Jasprit Bumrah likely to lead India in the fifth rescheduled Test match

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to lead India in the fifth rescheduled Test match if Rohit Sharma fails to recover in time. Regular vice-captain KL Rahul has already been ruled out of the series due to a groin injury.

Earlier this year, Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain of the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. If given the opportunity to lead, this will be his captaincy debut for India.

Meanwhile, KS Bharat is likely to make his test debut for India. He may open the innings along with Shubman Gill. Bharat slammed 70 and 43 in the warm-up match against Leicestershire.

The fifth rescheduled Test match is all set to take place in Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 1. India is leading the test series 2-1.
