ENG vs IND: Shubman Gill’s Chat With England Star Revealed Amid Ongoing Test Series

Former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler shared that he had exchanged a few text messages with India’s Test captain Shubman Gill during the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Buttler mentioned that he had sent Gill congratulatory messages for his standout performances with the bat in the series.

He made these remarks during a conversation with former England pacer Stuart Broad on the YouTube channel For The Love Of Cricket. When asked whether Gill had responded, the wicketkeeper-batter had this to say: (51:45)

“A couple of times (texted Gill), to sort of begrudgingly saying, ‘Well played.’ He does reply, which is nice; otherwise, I don’t think I’d send him another message.”

Interestingly, Jos Buttler played under Shubman Gill’s leadership during the 2025 IPL season with the Gujarat Titans. The English wicketkeeper-batter had a strong campaign, scoring 538 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 59.77. Gill has been in superb form in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, his first series as India’s Test captain.

He currently leads the series in runs, having amassed 722 runs in eight innings at an average of 90.25. With England leading the five-match series 2-1, the crucial final Test is scheduled from July 31 to August 4 at the Kennington Oval in London.

“India Missed Key Moments” – Stuart Broad on Gill-Led Side’s 2025 Series Performance

In the same conversation, Stuart Broad noted that ex-India coach Ravi Shastri had suggested Shubman Gill’s team should have been leading the series 3-0. However, Broad felt that although India has competed fiercely, they’ve fallen short in crucial moments. Broad stated (from 49:38):

“I have heard a lot of Indian fans say, and maybe Ravi Shastri said India could be 3-0 up. They haven’t won the real key moments, and we know Test match cricket is about that. Yes, they’ve got the highest run-scorers in the series, but it’s all about winning the key moments, and England have managed to do that.”

Disagreeing with Shastri’s statement, he further added (from 50:09):

“I don’t think India deserve to be 3-0 up . They could have been 3-0 up if they had just won those little hours, the most crucial in Test match cricket.”
