ENG vs IND: [WATCH] Rishabh Pant Unhappy With Ball Condition During 1st Test

India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant found himself in a heated exchange with the on-field umpire during Day 3 of the first Test against England in Leeds. The incident occurred in the opening session when Pant expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the Dukes ball. He approached the umpire and requested a review of the ball, hoping it would be replaced.

The umpire inspected it using the standard gauge but determined that the ball was still within acceptable limits. Pant, visibly upset with the outcome, was seen tossing the ball away in frustration, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. At the time, England skipper Ben Stokes and batter Harry Brook were at the crease.

Tributes for Former England Pacer David ‘Syd’ Lawrence

Day 3 of the Test match also saw emotional tributes paid to former England pacer David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 61. The England players wore black armbands in his memory, with a moment of applause held before the day’s play began.

Lawrence, remembered for his fiery pace and warm personality, represented England in five Test matches and one ODI between 1988 and 1992, claiming a total of 22 international wickets. He holds the historic distinction of being the first British-born Black cricketer to play for the England national team.

Lawrence’s Legacy and Battle with MND

David Lawrence had been battling motor neurone disease (MND) since 2024, a progressive and incurable neurological condition that affects muscle function. Despite the challenges of his illness, Lawrence remained active in raising awareness and support for others suffering from MND.

He authored a memoir titled Syd’s Voice, sharing his journey and advocating for improved care and research. Beyond the international arena, Lawrence had a distinguished domestic career, taking 515 wickets in 185 First-Class matches and 155 wickets in 113 List A games.

Unfortunately, his promising international stint was cut short in 1992 due to a severe kneecap injury during a Test match against New Zealand in Wellington. His passing marks a significant loss to the cricketing community, remembered both for his on-field talent and off-field courage.
