Trent Boult picks most five wicket haul in ODIs for NZ

The veteran pace bowler Trent Boult picked up a well-deserved five wickets in the 3rd One-day international match against England at Kennington Oval, London on 13th September 2023. It was a dream bowling effort by Boult who looked threatening and made life tough for England batters.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Boult dismissed Jonny Bairstow off his very 1st delivery and then got rid of Joe Root taking an inside edge onto the stumps to leave England in trouble at 13 for 2. Boult came into the bowling attack and broke brilliant 199 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. The left-arm pace bowler dismissed Sam Curran with a good catch by Devon Conway.

He ended with a brilliant yorker getting the wicket of Gus Atkinson picking his 5th wicket. Boult finished including impressive figures of 5 for 51 in 9.1 overs. The other New Zealand bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Ben Stokes smashing 182 runs off 124 deliveries that helped England post 368 in 48.1 overs. He did a superb job during rain curtailed 2nd One-day international match at Rose Bowl, Southampton by picking 2 early wickets.

Most Five Wicket Haul in ODIs By New Zealand Bowler Trent Boult

Trent Boult registered figures of 5 for 51 in 9.1 overs during the third ODI match played at Kennington Oval, London. With this brilliant spell, Boult picks up the most five-wicket hauls in a 50-over format by a New Zealand bowler.

Boult made his ODI debut in 2012 and has been a consistent performer for New Zealand. He looked impressive with brilliant performances in the 2015 WC as he grabbed 22 wickets equal with Mitchell Starc but due to more runs conceded, Boult ended with 2nd leading wicket-taker in the tournament. New Zealand reached the finals before losing to Australia.

He showed his class as New Zealand reached the finals again but lost to England in a thrilling final during the 2019 edition. Boult took 17 wickets from 10 matches (10 innings) at an economy of 4.83 runs per over with best figures of 4/30. Boult decided not to play for New Zealand cricket in any format since last year. He featured in 101 matches (101 innings) with 195 ODI wickets and 6 five-wicket hauls in the 50-over format. Richard Hadlee had the most number of 5 wicket haul in ODIs with 5.
