ICC has confirmed that Event Technical Committee of the Champions Trophy has approved Steven Finn as a replacement player for Chris Woakes.
Chris Woakes was rested for last 2 ODIS against South Africa because of thigh injury. He made his comeback in first match of the Champions Trophy and bowled only two overs before pulling out suffering a side strain.
Chris Woakes has been England”s spearhead in recent times. In 8 ODIS this year he has picked up 17 wickets. England”s leading wicket taker this year has been Liam Plunkett with 24 wickets from 10 games.
Steve Finn who is named as replacement has played 69 ODIS for England picking 102 wickets. England began their Champions Trophy campaign with an easy 8-wicket win against Bangladesh at The Oval.
Steve Finn is the third-quickest English bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets. England have preferred Finn’s experience and proven wicket-taking ability.
England next play against New Zealand at The Cardiff on 6 June. They end their group stage with a big encounter against Australia at Edgbaston on 10 June.
