England cricketer James Vince has raised his voice against the ECB no-objection certificate (NOC) policy. The policy omits English players from global T20 leagues, although allowing them to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Vince, who stepped down as Hampshire’s skipper to participate in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, feels that the policy has adverse effects on players.

The potentiality of escalating political pressures is another risk that Vince also points out in relation to the impacts of the ECB’s policy on players’ careers and their future earnings. Failing to allow the players to be involved with international leagues, the policy may limit the players to either giving up on such leagues or giving up on the big monetary deals abroad.

The nature of these leagues and the prospects that the PSL 10 has revealed show that players consider the prospects of these leagues attractive. This policy may have to be modified so as to fit the current environment within international cricket.

“PSL is a shorter competition”- James Vince

James Vince discussed this and blasted the ECB, claiming that because the PCB is shorter than the IPL, players would have missed less domestic cricket. According to him, the ECB and BCCI have a unique connection, which is why 25 and 30 terminated their Red Bull contracts. He stated in an interview with ESPNCricinfo:

“PSL is a shorter competition, so if you’re going to play in that, you’re probably missing less domestic cricket than if you’re going to the IPL. So that was a big one where it just didn’t seem right that, you know, why the IPL and not the PSL?”

“I guess it’s got to be something to do with relationships between the ECB and PCB and BCCIs as to why they’ve come up with that rule. I guess had another 25, 30 English players been picked up on decent contracts, there would have been more people kind of forgoing their Red Bull contracts to take up that offer” James Vince added.

England players will only be able to compete in the IPL.
