Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been brought in as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips in the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. Shanaka, who went unsold at the mega auction in November 2024, had been traveling with the Delhi Capitals as a net bowler.
Although Phillips didn’t feature in any of GT’s starting XI matches, he was on the field during their game against SRH when he sustained a groin injury. The Kiwi all-rounder had to be assisted off the field by a physio and has since returned to New Zealand for treatment.
On April 17, an official IPL press release confirmed that former Sri Lanka captain Shanaka had been selected to replace Phillips in the Gujarat Titans squad. Dasun Shanaka, who played three matches for the team during the 2023 season, will join for his base price of ₹75 Lakh.

As of April now, the Gujarat Titans are in 2nd place on the IPL 2025 points table. They have played 6 matches, winning 4 and losing 2, accumulating 8 points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.081.The Gujarat Titans’ next match is on Saturday, April 19, 2025, against the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad have also named replacements for their injured players
In addition to Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad have also announced their replacements. CSK, who will miss the services of skipper and batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, have brought in 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre as his replacement.
For SunRisers Hyderabad, Australian spinner Adam Zampa will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to an injury. SRH have opted not to replace him with a foreign player but have instead registered Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran. The 21-year-old was also part of the SRH reserves for Thursday’s match against Mumbai Indians.
