Mumbai cricketer Tanush Kotian had a memorable domestic season for his team. He had emerged as their crisis man for the domestic giants, batting in the lower order. The all-rounder has had several impressive performances throughout the season across formats. However, the dream of lifting the Ranji Trophy cup for Mumbai remained unfulfilled this season.

Mumbai is the most successful team in the history of the Ranji Trophy, lifting the trophy 41 times. However, their last title win came during the 2015-16 season. Since then, Mumbai has qualified for the finals twice, but couldn’t go past the final hurdle. When asked about his goals for the year ahead, winning the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai is at the top of the list for Tanush Kotian. He said to Cricfit,

“I would like do to better next season. I have to focus on both white-ball and red-ball cricket. Want to contribute as an all-rounder for the team, no matter the situation. I want to lift cups for my team. Ranji Trophy is the aim for the next season, we haven’t won in a while. We reached the final last season, but we didn’t lift the trophy. So now is the time to lift the Ranji Trophy.”

Tanush Kotian scored 303 runs and took 20 wickets in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season. He also took seven wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and ten in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. One of the highlights from his performance was his match-winning six in the final over of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which won Mumbai their maiden title.

Playing under Ajinkya Rahane is a privilege for me: Tanush Kotian

Former Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane led Mumbai this domestic season across all the formats. All-rounder Tanush Kotian expressed that he has never played under such a “gentleman” captain. He added that playing under Ajinkya Rahane was a privilege for him. Speaking to Cricfit, Tanush Kotian said,

“It was a good experience (playing under Ajinkya Rahane). He has supported me, and playing under him is a privilege for me. I have learned a lot from him, I have never played under such a captain before, a great gentleman. I am happy to play under him.”

“He has his plans for every bowler. But also allows us to plan and set the field according to our plans,” he added.
