Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has shared an intriguing tale about how he got his first tattoo. He states that he wanted something unique, so to that point. He had the date of his first match for the South African side tattooed on his arm.

Along with cricket, Du Plessis and his RCB teammate Virat Kohli both enjoy getting tattoos. Frequently, the same questions are put to the two. Just before reporting to the Bangalore camp for the IPL 2023, Kohli had a new tattoo done.

Du Plessis was questioned in a video posted to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s YouTube channel about how he got his first tattoo and its significance

The former South African captain disclosed. “My foremost one was that I always desired to purchase the thing but wasn’t sure, confused about what to buy. So I just told myself, ‘I’ll know when it’s the right thing to buy,'” he said. (Pointing to the tattoo with the date on it) “That was the first time I played for South Africa against India – I think I scored 60 or something in my debut game against India.

You must keep that in mind. Every time you look at your arm, you want to recall that special day because it is ingrained in your memory.”

“I had these long surfer locks with blonde highlights” – Faf du Plessis

On January 18, 2011, in Cape Town, the 38-year-old played his first ODI for his country, representing it against India. After South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. He made an impressive 60 off just 78 balls.

However, his effort was in vain as the Men in Blue defeated the opposition by two wickets while chasing down a 221-run target.

Faf du Plessis recalls his former appearance, saying, “I had these long surfer locks with blonde highlights.”

Du Plessis was asked about his youthful appearance during the conversation, something of which he is not particularly proud. The experienced right-handed batter confessed

I’m not sure that’s how I look when I see myself without a beard. And two, there would be a lot of photos from when I had just graduated from high school when I was going through that rebellious stage where I wanted to grow my hair long. My own long, blonde-highlighted surfer hair was a personal creation.
