Rishabh Pant scripted a historic moment during the first Test match against England at Headingley, Leeds. After scoring a brilliant 134 off 178 balls in the first innings, he followed it up with a stunning 118 off 140 balls in the second innings.
With this outstanding performance, Pant became only the second designated wicketkeeper-batsman in Test cricket history to score centuries in both innings of a match. The feat has been achieved just once before by Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower, who scored 142 and an unbeaten 199 against South Africa in Harare in 2001. Pant’s achievement now places him alongside one of the game’s most legendary performances.

Only Wicketkeeper to Do It Twice in England
Pant’s heroics in England go beyond just this Test. He had already etched his name in the record books back in 2022 at Edgbaston, where he scored 146 and followed it up with 57 in the same Test match. With his latest twin centuries, Rishabh Pant has now become the only wicketkeeper in Test history to score a century and another 50-plus score in the same match in England on two separate occasions.
This consistency and brilliance in challenging English conditions underline his value to the Indian side, not just as a dependable wicketkeeper but also as a match-winning batter. His aggressive style, fearless shot selection, and ability to counterattack under pressure continue to set him apart from his contemporaries.
Pant’s Century-Hitting Process
In the first innings of the match, Pant showcased his attacking flair, smashing six sixes and anchoring India’s innings at a critical time. His ability to take on the English bowlers and build a commanding score was a key factor in India’s fightback. In the second innings, he was slightly more restrained but no less effective, striking three sixes and playing another game-changing knock.
These centuries are not just personal milestones; they have been crucial in shifting the momentum in India’s favor. With this performance, Rishabh Pant has further strengthened his legacy as one of the most dynamic wicketkeeper-batters in Test cricket, earning respect and admiration from fans and cricket experts alike.
