Yuvraj Singh

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has found himself in deep waters after Haryana Police filed an FIR for a ‘distasteful’ and ‘disrespectful’ remark against the Dalit society during an Instagram live chat with opener Rohit Sharma last year.

Meanwhile, the incident took place in June 2020 amid the countrywide lockdown due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. During that time, the cricketers were going live on Instagram for a candid chat. During one such conversation with Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh had called leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal as a  ‘b***gi’ regarding Chahal’s incessant Tik-Tok videos and his antics over social media.

FIR filed against Yuvraj Singh

The remarks from Yuvraj Singh didn’t go well with the fans and citizens and they vented their anger on social media platforms. And now after eight months from the incident, an advocate, reportedly by the name of Rajat Kalsan, filed a police complaint against Yuvraj for his alleged ‘casteist remark’ at the Hansi police station of Hisar district in Haryana and now after 8 months, an FIR has been launched.

The police have registered the FIR under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of the SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh then issued an apology for “unintentionally” hurting the sentiments of a particular society of people after the remarks didn’t go well with a certain section of the fans.

This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” Yuvtaj Singh tweeted.

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal, “ the 39-year-old had said in his post.
