A significant controversy involving India opener Shubman Gill occurred on the penultimate day of the WTC Final 2023 at The Oval, which is currently favouring Australia.
After a protracted investigation by third umpire Richard Kettleborough, Gill was declared out after being caught by Cameron Green at gully.
Many cricket fans and a few former players felt that the Indian had not been treated fairly and came out in Gill’s defense. Gill was equally shocked by the decision.

According to Gill’s screenshot, it is clear that the Australian had grounded the ball before finishing the catch.
While Gill and the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who was batting alongside him at the time, didn’t hold back from expressing their annoyance, the former has since gone further.
When play on Day 4 came to an end, India had reached 164/3 after an enormous 444-run chase. Gill took to Instagram and Twitter to express his views on the situation.
Without naming anyone, Gill made fun of the official by sharing a screenshot showing Green dove towards his left to grab a low diving catch.
The Australian’s innings ended with him on 18 off 19 balls, according to the screenshots Gill shared. It appears that the Aussie had grounded the ball prior to completing the catch.
The incident happened just before tea time as Gill attempted to poke a ball slightly outside of the off-stump line by Scott Boland.
However, the ball took an outside edge during the process and traveled in the space between the slip cordon and gully before Green dove to his left to complete a magnificent effort.
The decision was referred to a TV official after a brief discussion between the umpires. They declared Gill out because there was no solid evidence to support the batter.
