Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar recently shared how an iconic Amitabh Bachchan film deeply moved ODI captain Rohit Sharma. Speaking on the Sony Sports Network, Nayar, who is also a close friend of Sharma, recalled the batter’s emotional attachment to the Bollywood classic.
He revealed that Sharma became very emotional while watching Sooryavansham, in which Bachchan plays both father and son, and added that it was the only film where he had seen the veteran opener shed tears. The former cricketer-turned-coach said:
“Woh ek picture hai jisme maine usko rote hue dekha hai. Ekdum senti ho jaate the wo. (That is one film where I have seen him cry. He got very sentimental.)”

It’s worth noting that Abhishek Nayar continues to work closely with Rohit Sharma, having recently overseen the 38-year-old’s gym sessions last month in preparation for the upcoming season. In terms of his cricket career, Rohit retired from T20Is after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and subsequently brought an end to his Test career in May this year.
His latest international outing was in the 2025 Champions Trophy final, where he guided India to a four-wicket win over New Zealand, ending the team’s 12-year wait for an ODI trophy. Sharma was named Player of the Match for his vital 76 off 83 balls in the summit clash.
