Former KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir has praised Mumbai Indians spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the IPL 2020 final. The former Indian batsman has decoded what makes Bumrah such a special bowler with the range of deliveries he possesses.
Talking to ESPN Cricinfo, the left-hander said that Bumrah has been the best bowler by far this season and his stats back him up to prove that. Gambhir said not the yorker, but the slower one is his best delivery.
As Bumrah gears up for the big final, Gambhir tried to explain what makes him so lethal with the ball.
“It’s not the yorker, it’s the slower one. Someone who has got a fabulous slower one will always have a very threatening yorker. Actually, you are looking for a slower one and suddenly you get that perfect yorker,” Gautam Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo.

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir further explained that Bumrah beats both the inside edge and the outside edge with his pace, which makes him a difficult bowler to handle as well.
“You try to see him off but he will beat you on the defence, he will beat you on the outside edge, he will beat you on the inside edge. He has that much quality to get you out on your defence. It’s exactly like Jofra Archer as well,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah had an IPL 2020 in two halves. He took nine wickets in the first five games at an average of 25.14 while conceding more than 8 runs per over. In the next nine games, he has picked up 20 wickets at an outstanding average of 10. His economy-rate of only 5.55 in those games as well.
Gautam Gambhir likened Bumrah with MI legend Lasith Malinga. Bumrah himself has spoken bout learning a trick or two about yorkers from Malinga himself.
“That’s why Malinga was so good. Malinga had a brilliant slower one and his yorkers were lethal. It’s exactly the same with Jasprit Bumrah,” Gambhir concluded saying.
