MS Dhoni scored a duck in his first game in IPL 2021 against Delhi Capitals. He batted as low as number seven in this game and was out to an Avesh Khan delivery which he chopped on to the stumps. Despite CSK scoring 188, Delhi cantered to their target as the three-time IPL champions started their IPL 2021 campaign with a loss. Later tonight , CSK play their second game of the season against Punjab Kings who beat the Royals in their first game.
Meanwhile, ahead of CSK’s second game, Gautam Gambhir has opened up on MS Dhoni’s ideal batting position. Gautam Gambhir said the legendary cricketer can’t be batting at as low as No.7 and expect to lead CSK from the front. Over the years, Dhoni has batted at a number of positions for his IPL franchise.
“We keep mentioning this thing that a leader needs to lead from the front. You can’t be leading, when you’re batting at No.7,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show Cricket Live ahead of the CSK vs PBKS encounter in Mumbai.
Gambhir further added that he is not the Dhoni of old who could hit the ball right from his first delivery. He said the CSK captain should bat at No.4 or 5 in the upcoming matches.

MS Dhoni Should Be Batting Higher: Gautam Gambhir
“MS Dhoni should be batting higher, that’s what matters because ultimately people should start leading from the front. Yes, there are issues in their bowling line up. Plus, he is not the MS Dhoni, which he used to be probably four or five years back, where he could just come in and start taking on the bowlers from the word go. For me, I think he needs to bat at number four/ five. Nothing below that,” Gambhir added.
CSK failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in its history last season. They finished sixth in the points table winning six and losing as many as eight games. They started IPL 2021 with a loss too. CSK will eye for a win as they take on Punjab Kings later tonight in Mumbai which has produced two very different wickets in the last two matches played.
