Royal Challengers Bangalore bought explosive Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell in the IPL 2021 Auction. RCB was involved in a bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings to buy him. In the end, they were able to get him for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore.
Maxwell in a recent interview with RCB revealed that Adam Zampa, who was retained by RCB in the IPL had presented him with his RCB cap. This happened when both of them were part of the Australian team which was touring New Zealand ahead of the auction. Glenn Maxwell revealed that the incident happened a day before the auction.
When Adam Zampa presented RCB jersey to Glenn Maxwell
The ace Aussie all-rounder said that Zampa came up to him gave the RCB cap to him and they clicked a picture together. He also revealed that Zampa then sent the picture to the RCB skipper Virat Kohli.
“There’s actually a funny story. The day of the auction, it was at night time in New Zealand. We were training while in quarantine in New Zealand. Adam Zampa had his RCB hat in his bag, so he took it out and made sure we had a photo. He sent it to Virat and said ‘Let’s get it over the line. Congratulations I have already given him his first cap!’,” Maxwell revealed in a video shared by RCB on social media.
Glenn Maxwell revealed how Virat Kohli reacted on receiving the picture from Adam Zampa and said it would all have turned out to be ‘silly’ had Royal Challengers Bangalore not managed to buy him at the auction.
“That was before the auction, so it all happened pretty well. It would have looked pretty silly if it didn’t work out that way. He put the picture on afterward but we took the photo before the auction. Virat said you guys are idiots (after Zampa sent Virat Kohli the picture),” Maxwell said.
Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell will be seen in action for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 14th April (Wednesday).
