Mumbai Indians continued their winning run as they surged on top of the points table beating Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sharjah Cricket Ground. The batters posted 208 runs before the bowlers backed them to win it. Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit Sharma congratulated the entire team after a collective effort.

Earlier in the day, Mumbai – after opting to bat – saw off Rashid Khan (1/22) and Natarajan (0/29) to go after the other SRH bowlers. Everyone, except Rohit, starred with the bat to power them to a total of 208. Quinton de Kock was dropped on 16 by Manish Pandey and the South African keeper not only came back to form but also made them pay heavily.

Mumbai surge on top of the points table

Mumbai Indians lower-order provided the much-needed impetus in the death to post 208 runs at the end of 20 overs. Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard played late cameos to cross the 200+ runs in the board.

While the chased looked on at the halfway stage, but Mumbai’s pace trio of James Pattinson, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah bowled the right lines to take the game home. Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner was the lone warrior but it was not enough to take them home.

Great to have three power-hitters – Rohit Sharma

Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit Sharma hailed the bowlers for defending the target in a small Sharjah Cricket Ground. Rohit Sharma had a poor outing but backed himself to come back strong in the next games.

“The wicket looked good but it was slightly on the slower side so getting past 200 was a great effort. We didn’t have any total in mind. We back our bowlers to do the job. And that’s what they did. I definitely missed out, but again you try your best whenever you have the opportunity,” Rohit Sharma said.

Speaking further, Rohit Sharma said it is an advantage to have three hitters – Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya in the ranks. They have time and again contributed to all the departments and have been lynchpins of Mumbai Indians’ success.

“Great effort from the boys to put those runs on the board. We decide the middle order depending on how the game is going. Match-ups, match situation etc. It is great to have three power hitters. Today Krunal also showed his value,” Rohit Sharma added.
