The right-handed batsman of the Indian National Cricket Team Hanuma Vihari has not only surprised fans and his fellow teammates with his incredible scores but also left them puzzled with his name. Speaking of the same, Vihari revealed how his name was originated.

The cricketer from Andhra has made the right noise since making his Test debut for India. After scoring thousand of runs in the domestic circuit, Hanuma became a household name for his gritty knocks for India, especially in Australia and West Indies.

Spilling the beans, Vihari revealed that his mother is an avid reader of Novels. She found a character named Vihari and since then, she always wanted to keep that name for his son while his father had a huge influence on Lord Hanuman. It is how the name Hanuma Vihari came into existence. The cricketer also clarified that Vihari is not his surname as many believe.

”My mother was reading a novel. There she found a character named Vihari, which struck her. She wanted to keep my name as Vihari. On the other hand, my father had a huge influence of Hanuman and our culture,” he said.

”They were fighting on which to keep and later settled as Hanuma Vihari. Thus, Vihari is not my surname (laughing),” the cricketer said to Cricfit editor Mikkhail Vaswani.

Well, it is an interesting story behind the origin of Hanuma Vihari. On the work front, the 26-year-old finally broke into the Indian after scoring tons of runs over the years. The right-handed batsman might not be a flamboyant character on and off the field for many but he lets his batting do all the talking. Now, he is a regular player in the longer version of the game and settling his place as an all-rounder in the team.

So far, he has represented India in nine Test matches scoring four half-centuries and century. His only century came against West Indies last year against the likes of Jason Holder and Kemar Roach.
