“Happy With My Form” – Rishabh Pant After DC Thump RR

The 36th Match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals of Indian Premier League 2021 has seen a great brand of cricket. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Delhi, despite having a poor start, managed to post a total of 154 in 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 43 as well. Mustafizur Rahman and Chetan Sakariya claimed 2 wickets each.

While chasing, Rajasthan too got a poor start before the captain Sanju Samson held the fort from one end. But he didn’t get much support from the other end and despite scoring a stable 70 runs off 53 balls, his side lost the game by 33 runs as well.

After the win, ShreyasĀ Iyer, who won the Player of the Match award, said: “To be honest I really didn’t know how it was playing so I backed myself (the pitch?). Decided that whatever happens I’m just going to back my instincts, see the ball closely and try to hit in the gaps, and take over the spinners later on. Both of them are aggressive batsmen, just didn’t work out for them today (Shaw and Dhawan). Whenever they get going they give us a good start. Today unfortunately it didn’t happen, so I was like we have to build a partnership here. And then Rishabh came in and we got a partnership of 50 runs. We’ve been batting for the last 5 years together playing for the same franchise.

The camaraderie and gelling has happened pretty awesome over the last few years. He takes on the bowler as soon as he comes in. Really relaxes me at the other end. That communication has been set. I’m feeling amazing (coming back from injury). Last four months was really hectic, but once I got out of it the mindset has been strong and I’ve been in a good mind space. Enjoying the process and the routines I’ve been doing for the last one month, and thankfully it’s showing on the ground. Thankfully I’ve got a close-knit family and friends. They never made me feel I was going through an injury. I was positive throughout and even they motivated me to do my work. Once the rehab started, everything was strong. The power came in quicker than I thought.”

Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals’ captain said: “If not the best, then one of the best bowling attack. Just look to improve and take one match at a time. There is a fair bit of planning. As a team we sit down, have meetings and all, plan according to the batsman, and just execute during the match. Most of the time he does the job (Ashwin setting his own field). As a captain whatever he wants I give him because he’s a senior guy and likes to take responsibility. Happy with my form, especially when your team is winning everything is good I guess. We’ve been batting for a long time now, playing for the same franchise for like 5-6 years so the bond is always there (with Iyer).”

Anrich Nortje said: “It was quite slow. Speaking to Shreyas when he came off, he said it was difficult to hit straight. So we tried to make them hit straight. Try and hit a good length, neither too short or too full. At the end of the day the bowlers did a great job. We try and share ideas as soon as possible. Depends who’s batting (going short or yorker?). Definitely the yorker – been enjoying it and working on it. Been a long season and the season is not really stopping so we’re all trying to workout and stay as fit as possible.”

After losing the game, Sanju Samson said: “A target of 155 with the quality of batsmen we have, I thought it was chaseable. We had the batting to go after it. I think we will come back stronger in the next game. The emotions are on the higher side, we’ll think about it tomorrow morning. The pitch was not that slow. It was holding up, but if we had a few wickets in hand we could have got the over the line.”
