Former Mumbai Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh has hailed current Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav as the AB de Villiers of India. This statement coming from Harbhajan after Suryakumar Yadav’s stellar IPL season for the Mumbai Indians as he notched up 480 runs in 15 matches at an average of 40.

We witnessed that in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav took up the prime responsibility of the Mumbai Indians batting scoring bulk of the runs by anchoring the run chases in most cases. His sublime striking and superior shot selection ability have made him the nation’s favourite as people went on to question the Indian selectors why a batsman with such calibre isn’t a part of the Indian setup.

Suryakumar Yadav is Indian AB de Villiers: Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh who was part of the Mumbai Indians franchise from 2008 to 2017 regarded Suryakumar Yadav as the Indian AB de Villiers because of Surya’s innovative game-changing gameplay. Harbhajan said that Surya has transformed drastically in last few years from a game changer to a primary match-winner as he went on to win matches for Mumbai Indians on a consistent basis this year.

“There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has transformed himself from being the game-changer to a primary match-winner for the Mumbai Indians. He had taken up a lot of responsibility of their batting”,  Harbhajan said on Star Sports.

Harbhajan Singh further complimented the Mumbai batsman on how he plays his shots all around the ground. Since Surya plays spin and pace really well and has the ability to play the sweep to seamers, he went on to term him as the Indian AB de Villiers.

“And it is not that he plays at the strike rate of 100 if you see his strike rate, he starts hitting from the first ball itself. It is difficult to stop him as he has all types of shots. He hits overs covers, plays the sweep also well, plays spin very well, plays fast bowling amazingly well. He is the Indian AB de Villiers”, said Harbhajan.
