Harbhajan lauded Kumble for his great competitive spirit that made him a champion bowler. Kumble was not known to turn the ball a great deal but his accurate line and lengths made him a force in world cricket. Harbhajan rated him ahead of every other Indian player and feels grateful to have played cricket with him.

“In my view, Anil Bhai was the greatest ever who played for India. He’s probably the greatest match-winner India has ever produced. People used to say he didn’t spin the ball, but he showed that if you had the heart, you could get batsmen out regardless of whether the ball spun or not.”

“If anyone has half the competitiveness Anil Bhai had, he would become a champion. I’m lucky to have played with him for so many years. He was an unbelievably committed player, Harbhajan told Sportstar.

Anil Kumble even went on to captain the Indian Test team for a brief but an impactful period during 2007 and 2008. The former legendary leg spinner was also the head coach of the Indian team in 2016-2017.

He is the only India and second bowler in the world that claimed all 10 wickets in a Test innings after England’s Jim Laker. Kumble had figures of 10-74 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Delhi Test in 1999.
