Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana has received a reprimand from the ICC for an incident during the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on November 30. He was charged with violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel.
This article relates to “using language, actions, or gestures that insult or could trigger an aggressive response from a batter after their dismissal during an international match.” The issue occurred in the 22nd over of South Africa’s tense chase when Harshit dismissed young batter Dewald Brevis.
After Brevis was caught on the boundary for 37, Harshit pointed toward the dressing room in a gesture directed at him. As a result, the pacer has been handed one demerit point on his disciplinary record. This is the 23-year-old’s first violation in the past two years, and the young pacer agreed to the sanction issued by Richie Richardson from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Even though Harshit Rana had a heated exchange with Dewald Brevis after dismissing him, the pacer still produced an outstanding performance in the opening ODI against South Africa. After India posted a huge total of 349/8 in 50 overs, Harshit struck in his very first over to give the team an ideal start.
He dismissed the dangerous pair of Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock within his first three balls, reducing South Africa to 7/2 in the second over. Later, when Brevis was threatening with a rapid 37 off 27 balls, Harshit removed him as well, slowing down the visitors’ strong chase.
Harshit ended with figures of 3/65 from his 10 overs, helping India secure a 17-run victory and take a 1-0 lead in the series. The young pacer is set to feature again as India aim to seal the series 2-0 in the second ODI in Raipur today (December 3).
