Harshit Rana, the emerging pace bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was recently asked about his signature flying-kiss celebration and if he would repeat it after dismissing Virat Kohli in IPL 2024. Notably, Rana had taken Kohli’s wicket in a match where the legality of the delivery was later discussed.
Rana, who played a crucial role in KKR’s 2024 title-winning campaign by taking 19 wickets in 11 innings, responded humorously to the question. Rana first showcased his flying-kiss celebration after dismissing Mayank Agarwal of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He admitted that the gesture was spontaneous and not planned for any specific player or match, including an instance against the Delhi Capitals, where it led to him being fined his entire match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. He clarified that he had no plans to repeat the celebration, suggesting that the public’s reaction had amplified its significance.
In the discussion, Shubhankar pointed out Kohli’s well-known aggressive demeanour and competitive spirit on the field. He remarked on Kohli’s no-nonsense approach and his tendency to react strongly when challenged. Rana agreed, elaborating that his decision to avoid any provocative celebrations against Kohli was out of respect for the player and his formidable reputation.

To which Harshit replied: “Sir, matlab mai bata rahu hu aapko ki aesa mai pehle match mein bhi sochke nahi gaya tha ki karna hai. Aur dusre match mein bhi aesa kuch…matlab log mujhe relate karne lag gaye the ki RCB waale match mein karke dikhaaiyo.”
