Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali is unlikely to go for surgery after showing symptoms of recovery. Hasan Ali responded positively to online rehabilitation conducted by neurosurgeon Asif Bashir. He and spinal therapist Prof. Peter O’Sullivan of the Pakistan cricket board medical team examined the fast bowler last week.

Hasan Ali last year in September had developed a back problem which forced him out of action for quite some time. Before a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match, the problem emerged again but he recovered in time for the fifth season of the PSL. However, after the PSL, in April, reports showed that he was dealing with excessive stress on his lower back according to the medical team of PCB.

No need for surgery for Hasan Ali

The fast bowler has a bowling action that puts a lot of load on his lower back while delivering the ball. The speedster because of that underwent a two-hour-long rehabilitation session.

The PCB medical team were happy with the progress of Hasan and as of now decided against him having surgery. Meanwhile, the medical team will constantly be in touch with the fast bowler. They will take any decision only after five weeks after assessing the injury.

“Hasan Ali picking up injuries around the same area twice in less than a year was not a normal thing. Consequently, we consulted some of the best and most experienced specialists and it is heartening to hear their feedback following the opening online rehabilitation session in which Hasan showed no signs of symptomatic regression”.

“However, these are early days of his rehabilitation programme and we will continue to monitor his progress for the next five weeks before collectively making future decisions. But one thing is for certain, he is under the treatment of the very best in the business and hopefully, he will return fitter and stronger to competitive cricket without any surgery”, said Dr Sohail Saleem, PCB Director of Medical and Sports Sciences.

The fast bowler missed out on a central contract given by PCB. However, he will receive financial assistance from the board until he returns to competitive cricket. Hasan Ali played a crucial role in Pakistan’s triumph in the 2017 Champions Trophy. He was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament and received the player of the series award for his 13 wickets.
