“Hazlewood Will Struggle For Form” — Abhishek Nayar’s Bold Prediction Before AUS Vs IND 1st T20

Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar expressed confidence in opener Abhishek Sharma’sability to perform well in the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia. Nayar believes that Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood could face difficulties if the explosive left-hander finds his rhythm early.

He pointed out that Sharma is known for his aggressive approach and tendency to attack from the very first ball, which could give India a strong start during the powerplay overs. Notably, Hazlewood is set to miss the final three T20Is of the series, as he will be released after the first two matches to participate in Sheffield Shield cricket in preparation for the Ashes 2025–26.

Talking about Sharma’s attacking approach, Nayar said on Star Sports:

“If Abhishek Sharma is in form, Hazlewood will be out of form. The way he bats, he is known to hit the first ball for a four or a six. If you instil fear in the powerplay, it continues throughout the innings. That’s Abhishek Sharma’s impact on the game. If he bats six overs, India will score between 60 to 80. It will ease the pressure for his batting partner, while it will increase for the opposition.”

“It’ll Be a Big Test” — Nayar on Abhishek Sharma vs Hazlewood

Abhishek Nayar remarked that taking on an in-form Josh Hazlewood would pose a significant challenge for Abhishek Sharma. However, he noted that the 25-year-old has now gained valuable experience and maturity. The former cricketer-turned-coach suggested that Sharma would be eager to leave his mark by delivering strong performances in Australia.

He further added during the discussion:

“It will be a big test for him, especially against Hazlewood, who is in good rhythm and extracting extra bounce. However, I feel that he has got enough experience by playing in the IPL and in South Africa.”

“He has a fearless mindset and will want to make a name for himself in Australia. This is a good chance for him, as it is very satisfying to earn respect in Australia. From how much I know of him, he would want to make a name for himself here.”
