HCA President Held In Connection With IPL 2025 Ticketing Scam

Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao was arrested over a ticket scam during IPL 2025. As per NDTV Sports, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) detained him on Wednesday, July 9, in Hyderabad. Rao is accused of misconduct related to ticket distribution at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, the home ground of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The report mentioned irregularities in both ticket allocation and internal HCA operations. The allegations claim that Jagan Mohan Rao and other HCA members pressured SRH for extra tickets, including some for personal sale. They also reportedly engaged in black-marketing of these tickets during the IPL 2025 season.

Earlier in the season, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) had alleged that Jagan Mohan Rao used intimidation and blackmail tactics to demand additional complimentary tickets from the franchise. In response, the Telangana government initiated an investigation, leading the CID to register an FIR against Rao and his associates.

SRH had also brought the matter to the attention of the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council.

SRH Miss Out On IPL 2025 Playoff Berth

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) missed out on a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs, a year after reaching the final. This season, they couldn’t match last year’s form and ended up sixth in the standings. Although they began with a 44-run win against Rajasthan Royals (RR), four straight losses afterward severely dented their campaign and left them struggling to regain momentum.

Despite finishing the league stage with three consecutive wins, the late surge wasn’t enough to secure qualification. SRH wrapped up their season with six victories and 13 points from 14 matches. The franchise will now look to regroup and aim for a stronger comeback in IPL 2026. SRH, notably, won their only title in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.
