Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer feels Kuldeep Yadav should replace Yuzvendra Chahal in Team India’s playing XI for the second ODI against New Zealand, which will take place on Sunday, November 27 at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Chahal did not have a great outing in the first ODI on Friday at Eden Park in Auckland. He was taken for runs by the kiwi batters. India failed to defend 307 runs, losing the match by seven wickets.

Yuzvendra Chahal went wicketless in the match. He conceded 67 runs in his quota of 10 overs at an economy rate of 6.7. Following India’s loss, a lot of questions were raised about the team’s bowling attack. Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer has expressed that Kuldeep Yadav should get a chance in the next match. He added that the spinner brings “a bit of mystery” to his bowling.

“I’d be tempted to play Kuldeep in place of Chahal just because he brings a bit of mystery and spins it both ways. He is in good form as well,” said Wasim Jaffer as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

There’s a lot of inexperience in the bowling attack: Wasim Jaffer

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer further pointed out the lack of experience in the Indian bowling attack in the first ODI against New Zealand. Pacers Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh were playing their first ODI for India on Friday at Eden Park. Jaffer opined that Team India is unlikely to make a lot of changes. However, he added that he would want to see Kuldeep Yadav replace Yuzvendra Chahal. He said,

“Moreover, India has 5 bowling options to choose from as they haven’t got a sixth bowling option. That can be a bit of a worry. Arshdeep played his first ODI and so did Umran. There’s a lot of inexperience, especially for this format, there’s a lot of inexperience, especially for this format.”

“On small grounds, it can get tricky as well. I don’t think there will be a lot of change, but I will be keen to have a look at Kuldeep in place of Chahal,” he added.
