Sanju Samson did an amazing job as captain of Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rajasthan Royals (RR) reached the final of IPL for the first time since 2009. Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri too was in awe of the batting skills of Sanju Samson.

Samson also had a very good season with the bat. He scored 458 runs in IPL 2022 at an impactful strike rate of 146. However, Sanju Samson failed to find a place in the squad for the T20I series against South Africa. Several cricket fans raised their objection over the exclusion of Samson from the T20I squad.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri praised the range of shots that Samson has in his skillset. Shastri believes that Samson would be best suited for Australian pitches because he has all types of shots for bouncy pitches. The 60-year-old also said that no Indian has more shots than Samson for those pitches.

Ravi Shastri on a show with Espncricinfo said, “Between Tripathi, Samson, and Iyer, there will be opportunities now. But when you look at Australia, bounce, pace, cut, pull, Samson will always threaten there. For that conditions, he has more shots than any other Indian, to be honest.”

“I can’t see them missing out” – Ravi Shastri backs Virat and Rohit to be back in form

Ravi Shastri also backed Veteran batsman Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to come back in form. Shastri believes that both of them would be in the team for T20 World Cup unless something drastic happens. He  also said that all format players have to be rotated properly to keep them fresh.

Shastri added, “Because of the proximity to the World Cup, I don’t think they (Rohit, Kohli, Pant, Bumrah) will play all of these 30 games. They will be shared with others. Unless something drastic happens due to injury, I can’t see them missing out.”
