Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt feels the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should rope in former India skipper MS Dhoni as a coach. He expressed that MS Dhoni would be a great fit and an asset to the team. Team India has achieved great success under the wicketkeeper batter’s leadership, winning all three ICC trophies.

MS Dhoni took retirement from International cricket in August 2020. He was appointed as a mentor for Team India by the BCCI for the 2021 T20 World Cup. According to some reports, the BCCI is mulling over bringing MS Dhoni back into the management. Salman Butt feels that the former skipper as his presence will benefit Indian cricket significantly. Speaking on his Youtube channel, Salman Butt said,

“Indian cricket will benefit significantly from MS Dhoni’s involvement and presence. Because of the type of captain he is, he would be a great fit to design tactical plans for the team.”

“He is a technical expert with an excellent temperament. He is an asset to them, and they should indeed create a capacity for him to contribute,” added Salman Butt.

MS Dhoni’s appointment will help Indian cricket in the long run: Salman Butt

Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt further expressed that India cricket will benefit in the long run from MS Dhoni’s appointment as a coach. He opined that going forward, technical coaching will not help the players. Butt added that experience should weigh in more than technical coaching. He said,

“India should surely bring in Dhoni. The players will benefit from his appointment, and it will help Indian cricket in the long run. Technical coaching is not the way ahead, according to me.”

“You cannot beat the experience or the person who has done it in a different way. Learning how to coach is like schooling and is still very important. We often see, children who are often made to stand outside the class become the most successful,” Salman Butt added.
