“He Needs To Develop Some Shots”- Wasim Jaffer Urges Shreyas Iyer To Improve His Game Against Pacers

The Indian domestic legend Wasim Jaffer recently stated that Shreyas Iyer needs to develop his game against the fast bowlers, to ensure that the 27-year-old adds up more runs in his account.

Iyer, in the last T20 International game against South Africa, managed to score 36 runs off 27 deliveries, with a boundary and three sixes. However, the right-hand batter did seem to be struggling against pace, at some stage in the match. Iyer was dismissed by the South Africa pacer Dwaine Pretorius, while playing a lofted shot, across the line; as he missed the cross-seam full-length delivery, which ended up knocking him over the off-stump.

Iyer, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, had struggled while facing bouncers. Iyer had scored runs against pacers at a strike rate of 138.06 and had to bear the way of pavilion seven times.

You kind of know when Shreyas gets stuck- Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer recently mentioned the way Iyer shuffles in the crease when he feels pressure against fast bowlers and tries to hit over the off-side fielders.

Talking to the ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer stated: “You kind of know when Shreyas gets stuck, he moves around in the wicket a lot. He goes outside and wants to access the off-side. Otherwise, you won’t see him hitting a lot of boundaries or sixes off the fast bowlers. He did take down Shamsi and then later on Ishan Kishan took on the Keshav Maharaj threat.”

Furthermore, Jaffer told: “Look at the future, he needs to develop some shots with which he can dominate the fast bowlers also. He is batting in the top 4, he is not somebody who comes at the backend. So he has to improve his game, especially the boundary hitting against fast bowlers. That innings could have been a little bit better. 10-15 more would have come if he had hit a couple more boundaries in this innings.”
