“He Sat On The floor”-Faiz Fazal Reflects On A Moment With The ‘Humble’ MS Dhoni During India Duty

Faiz Fazal expressed admiration for MS Dhoni’s humility during their time as teammates for the Indian cricket team in 2016 during the tour of Zimbabwe.

Fazal recounted an incident where Dhoni gave up his seat for the younger players in the lounge and chose to sit on the floor. The left-handed batsman was astonished by Dhoni’s down-to-earth nature, considering the extensive achievements in his career.

In an interview with CricketNext, Faiz Fazal shared his thoughts on Dhoni, stating:

“MS Dhoni is so humble, down to earth and he doesn’t make you feel that he is ‘MS DHONI’. I will share an experience with you. We were returning from Harare and sitting in the lounge.”

“MS came in and all of us offered him our seat. He just said ‘nahi nahi tum log betho (you have a seat)’ and he sat on the floor. He is a legend and he makes you very comfortable.”

Faiz Fazal also received his first India cap from Dhoni on that tour, and he expressed his emotions, saying:

“The cherry on the cake was that I got the cap from MS Dhoni. Moreover, we won that match and I struck an unbeaten 55. I was happy that I made some contribution for the team.”

”I think everything is written in your destiny. In a population of 1.5 billion people, if you get a chance to represent the country, that’s just amazing.”

Despite scoring an unbeaten 55 in his sole international appearance, Faiz Fazal did not feature in another game for India. He retired from professional cricket following Vidarbha’s final Ranji Trophy 2023/24 group match against Jammu and Kashmir.

Faiz Fazal shares his experience of batting alongside KL Rahul

In his solitary ODI appearance for India, Faiz Fazal formed a remarkable opening partnership of 126 runs with the young KL Rahul, securing a comprehensive victory against Zimbabwe with all ten wickets in hand.

Fazal shared his thoughts on Rahul, stating:

“KL Rahul is a very good partner to bat with. We were very chilled at that point of time. When we won the game, I got a lot of appreciation from all around.”

Even though Fazal had only one appearance for India, he took pride in being the sole player from the ODI squad touring Zimbabwe without an IPL contract. He boasts a record of 138 first-class games, 113 List A matches, and 66 T20s.
