Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has passed on a remark on Rohit Sharma’s batting position. He was giving his reaction to India’s loss to Australia in the first T20 in Mohali on Tuesday September 20.

Rohit was shown the way to the dugout with just 11 runs under his name. In a video uploaded on his Youtube channel, Kaneria made a suggestion to Rohit Sharma and asked him to consider demoting himself to No.3 and allow Virat Kohli to open the innings. He said:

“Rohit Sharma isn’t scoring enough runs. We saw that during the Asia Cup too. He is getting starts, but hasn’t been able to convert them into big knocks. He should consider dropping himself to No. 3 and Virat Kohli could open. Or India could ask KL Rahul to be the No. 3 with Virat and Rohit playing as openers.”

Danish Kaneria further went on to criticize Virat Kohli and slammed him for gifting his wicket away at an early stage of the game. Kohli scored just two runs off seven deliveries during his stay at the crease.

“Virat Kohli received a huge ovation from the crowd when he came out to bat. However, he could only manage to score two runs. There was no need for him to play that shot and there was no requirement for that shot at that stage of the match. He should have looked to spend more time at the crease before playing his shots. It was a fresh wicket and he needed to adjust first,” he continued.

Australia register a thumping win over India in 1st T20

Aaron Finch-led Australia chased down a record of 209 runs target in the first of three T20 Internationals. India’s death bowling was exposed once again. The wounds of the Asia Cup are not yet healed in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the game.

The spinners put India back on track, but things went haywire at the death. The pace duo of Harshal Patel (0/49) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/52) alone leaked a total of 101 runs. India will look to find their death over solution in the upcoming games ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.
