BCI President Sourav Ganguly made a big revelation about former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman. He said that Laxman was keen on taking up a role with the Indian national cricket team but it was Rahul Dravid who was ultimately announced as the next head coach. He replaced Ravi Shastri yo that position as Laxman was assigned a position as the head of thr NCA.
As per BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, it was tough to rope in Dravid as he wasn’t agreeing to the job as Team India is on the road for 8-10 months in a year.
“We had Rahul in mind for a long period of time, both me and Jay, but he wasn’t agreeing because of the time away from home [and] because doing a national team’s job is [about being] on the road for about 8-9 months in a year and he has two young children,” Ganguly told Boria Majumdar recently.
In that same interview, Ganguly also said that VVS Laxman was also interested in working with the national team but that could not be figured out at the moment. The BCCI President however sid that Laxman might be considered for a role with the Indian team in the future.
“He was keen on the national team job, but that couldn’t worked out. But somewhere down the line, he would have that opportunity to coach the national team,” he has said.
For now, Laxman has taken charge of the NCA. Besides that, he will continue his role of being a mentor with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The franchise retained Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad in the retention window. They released their matchwinners David Warner and Rashid Khan in the window. It will be interesting to see if SRH buys back Rashid Khan in the auctions. That Warner has parted ways with the franchise was visible when he was not a part of the playing Xi in the UAE leg.
