Glenn Maxwell recently fractured his leg at a birthday party, which has ruled him out of cricketing action for several months. The mishap happened while running in the backyard, where his leg got trapped.
The recent injury raises questions about his availability for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), given that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have retained him.
Glenn Maxwell is set to miss the upcoming series versus England and is replaced by Travis Head in the squad. However, he will be unavailable for the Melbourne Stars in the forthcoming Big Bash League season. The Australian is expected to come back to his full fitness by March.
Mike Hesson, the director of cricket operations for Royal Challengers Bangalore on the team’s official YouTube channel, said:
“There’s been a little bit of concern surrounding Glenn Maxwell due to his broken leg. But we certainly wish Glenn a speedy recovery, and with all the information we have, he will be back well before IPL 2023 starts.”
Hesson further talks about the importance of having a three-dimensional player in this format, which is essential to the balance of the team’s squad.
“Having a three-dimensional player in the squad is critical for maintaining the balance of the squad,” Mike Hesson added.

“Key part was ensuring that there is consistency” – Mike Hesson on RCB’s retained player list
The former New Zealand head coach further talked about the ideology that the team implemented behind retaining and releasing players ahead of the mini-auction in Kochi on December 23.
“Talking about RCB’s retention list, it was undoubtedly a rigorous process,” Hesson said. “But the key part was ensuring that there is consistency and keeping players who have delivered results for us. We have spent a lot of time in the previous year looking at the players we want to identify for the years to come.”
“The philosophy was unless we got someone significantly bigger than someone who is already in the team, we really wanted to trust the players who have done well for RCB,” he added.
RCB have released four players and has traded Jason Behrendoff to the Mumbai Indians. The released players include Chama Milind, Aneeshwar Gautam, Luvnith Sisodia and Sherfane Rutherford.
