Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar feels Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni will play another season before calling time on his IPL career. Incidentally, there have been a lot of speculations on Dhoni’s IPL career ever since he announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020.

The 40-year-old wicket-keeper recently resumed leadership duties from Ravindra Jadeja after the Super Kings were off to a poor start in the competition. MS Dhoni has done a decent job with the bat in the limited opportunities that he has got.

He also played a memorable cameo to lift Chennai to victory against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in a last-ball thriller. Shoaib Akhtar praised Dhoni and predicted that the 40-year-old might quit after the next IPL. Speaking to Sportskeeda, he said:

“He is MS Dhoni. Can’t really predict what he does. He can do any odd stuff. He is known for doing that. He’s a great guy. We all love him and respect him. Personally, though, I reckon he will play another season before he calls it a day. Or again, he might be part of the management.”

MS Dhoni has scored 142 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 130.28, including one half-century. He will hope to continue the good work as the defending champions will hope to end their IPL 2022 campaign on a high.

Teams need to look beyond Kohli and Dhoni – Shoaib Akhtar

Shoaib Akhtar also urged the franchisees to start looking beyond the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni and think about the future. The Rawalpindi Express added:

“Franchises need to stay looking beyond players like Dhoni and Kohli. Of course, there is the star factor and emotional bonding with the two big names. But this is a cruel world. Teams need to look ahead and explore options.”

Virat Kohli’s horrendous run in IPL 2022 continued as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck for the third time in the ongoing edition against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday.
