Before the 2019 auction, the IPL franchises have announced their retention and released the list of players. Some big names have been released by franchises due to poor performance in last year’s IPL.

1. Chennai Super Kings

The 2018 champions Chennai Super Kings have released only three players from their squad for IPL 2019.

The released players include England’s fast bowler Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma. Mark Wood got only 1 match in the 2018 edition. These two youngsters could not get a game in the 2018 edition.

Chennai Super Kings have retained their core players from the 2018 edition. They have retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santer, David Willey, Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Sam Billings, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Dhruv Shorey, N Jagadeesan, Shardul Thakur, Monu Kumar and Chaitanya Bishnoi.

Most of the retained players did a great job for Chennai Super Kings in 2018 edition. They have not bought any player from the trade so far.

Chennai Super Kings are allowed to buy 2 Indian players from 2 available slots.

Released players: Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth, Kshitiz Sharma

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad

The runners-up of 2018 edition IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad have decided to release 9 players which include Sachin Baby, Tanmay Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha, Chris Jordan, Carlos Brathwaite, Alex Hales, Bipul Sharma, Mehedi Hasan. Sunrisers Hyderabad released Shikhar Dhawan from their squad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has bought Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem, young Abhishek Sharma. All these traded players were playing for Delhi Daredevils.

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained their core group of players who did brilliantly in the 2018 edition of IPL. David Warner, Yusuf Pathan, Rashid Khan, Shakib AL Hasan, Billy Stanlake, Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, T Natarajan, Ricky Bhui, Sandeep Sharma, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi and Deepak Hooda.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has 5 slots available in which they are allowed to buy 3 Indian players and 2 overseas players.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders reaching the playoffs stage in the 2018 edition of IPL, will be looking to perform well with youngsters in 2019 auction.

The KKR franchise decided to release Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson, Tom Curran, Cameron Delport, Javon Searles, Ishank Jaggi, Aproov Wankhade, Vinay Kumar. Out of these released players, Tom Curran played 5 matches and picked 6 wickets. He scored 23 runs in 5 matches.

Mitchell Johnson was released due to poor performance in IPL 2018. He took only 2 wickets from 6 matches. Vinay Kumar played only 2 matches and picked only 2 wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders retained their core group which includes Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna.

The franchise has not yet bought any player in so far. KKR are allowed to buy 7 Indian and 5 overseas players from 12 available slots.

Released players: Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson, Tom Curran, Cameron Delport, Javon Searles, Ishank Jaggi, Aproov Wankhade, Vinay Kumar

Retained players: Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna.

4. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals who finished 4th in the 2018 edition of IPL, have released top players like Jaydev Unadkat, Anureet Singh, Ankit Sharma, Jatin Saxena, D’Arcy Short, Ben Laughlin.

Jaydev Unadkat who was bought for 11.5 Crore by Rajasthan Royals, could not perform according to the billing, picked 11 wickets from 15 matches with a high economy of 9.65 runs per over. The dashing left-handed batsman short bought by Rajasthan Royals was released as he scored 115 runs from 7 matches.

Rajasthan Royals franchise has retained their top players Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Ish Sodhi, Ajinkya Rahane, K Gowtham, Sanju Samson, Sheryas Gopal, Aryaman Birla, S Midhun, Prashant Chopra, Stuart Binny, Rahul Tripathi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mahipal Lomror.

Jos Buttler was the top performer for Rajasthan Royals during the 2018 IPL. He took Rajasthan Royals to playoff stage with a match-winning knock.

Rajasthan Royals franchise has 9 slots available in which they can buy 6 Indian and 3 overseas players.

Released players: Jaydev Unadkat, Anureet Singh, Ankit Sharma, Jatin Saxena, D’Arcy Short, Ben Laughlin

5. Mumbai Indians

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians could not qualify for the playoff stage in 2018 edition of IPL.

Before the 2019 IPL, Mumbai Indians have released few top international players which include Mustafizur Rahman, Pat Cummins, JP Duminy, Akila Danajaya, Saurabh Tiwary, Tajinder Singh Dhillon, Mohsin Khan, Pradeep Sangwan, MD Nidheesh, Sharad Lumba.

Mumbai Indians have shown faith in retaining big players which include Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Mayank Markande, Rahul Chahar, Anukul Roy, Siddesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Evin Lewis, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, and Jason Behrendorff.

They have bought in South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock as he will play for Mumbai Indians this year. Last year, de Kock was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians can buy 6 Indian and 1 overseas player in the remaining 7 available slots.

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore finished 6th in the points table winning 6 matches and losing 8 matches with 12 points.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has released Mandeep Singh, Quinton de Kock, explosive batsman Brendon McCullum, England all-rounder Chris Woakes, Corey Anderson and Sarfaraz Khan.

They have bought in Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for this year’s IPL. In the 11 years of IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore reached the finals twice.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has retained their top players which include Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Parthiv Patel, Washington Sundar, Pawan Negi, Moeen Ali, Colin de Grandhomme, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Nathan Coulter Nile, Kulwant Khejroliya.

Moeen Ali, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Colin de Grandhomme, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Nathan Coulter Nile was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise last year.

With 10 available slots available, Royal Challengers Bangalore are allowed to buy 8 Indian and 2 overseas players in IPL 2019 auction.

Released players: Quinton de Kock, Mandeep Singh, Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes, Corey Anderson, Sarfaraz Khan.

Retained players: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Parthiv Patel, Washington Sundar, Pawan Negi, Moeen Ali, Colin de Grandhomme, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Nathan Coulter Nile, Kulwant Khejroliya.

7. Kings XI Punjab

After such great to the 2018 edition, Kings XI Punjab could not maintain the same momentum and qualify for playoff stages.

Before the 2019 auction, Kings XI Punjab has decided to release big names including Yuvraj Singh, Aaron Finch, Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran, Manoj Tiwary, Ben Dwarshusis, Akashdeep Nath, Pradeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar, Manzoor Dar.

Kings XI Punjab has retained top players which include Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller, Ravichandran Ashwin, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

They have decided to bring Mandeep Singh in their squad. In the coaching staff, they have decided to bring Mike Hesson as their head coach while Virender Sehwag has decided to move on from Kings XI Punjab coaching staff.

With 15 available slots there for Kings XI Punjab, they are allowed to buy 11 Indian and 4 overseas players in the auction.

Released players:  Yuvraj Singh, Aaron Finch, Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran, Manoj Tiwary, Ben Dwarshusis, Akashdeep Nath, Pradeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar, Manzoor Dar.

Retained Players:  Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller,  Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair, Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Mandeep Singh has been traded from Royal Challengers to Kings XI Punjab this season.

8. Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils have decided to release Gambhir, Maxwell, Jason Roy, Mohammad Shami, Dan Christian, Sayan Ghosh, Liam Plunkett, Junior Dala, Naman Ojha.

In the retained players list, Delhi Daredevils has gone with a young squad which include Prithvi Shaw, Sheryas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Manjot Kalra. Apart from youngsters, they have top quality T20 international players including Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, Harshal Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Sandeep Lamichhane, Avesh Khan.

They have removed Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan has been traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Delhi Daredevils.

Released players: Gautam Gambhir, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Mohammad Shami, Dan Christian, Sayan Ghosh, Shahbaz Nadeem, Liam Plunkett, Junior Dala, Naman Ojha, Vijay Shankar, Abishek Sharma.

Retained players: Prithvi Shaw, Sheryas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Manjot Kalra, Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, Harshal Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Sandeep Lamichhane and Avesh Khan.

With 10 slots available, Delhi Daredevils franchise is allowed to buy 7 Indian and 3 overseas players in the IPL 2019 auction.

Shikhar Dhawan has been bought into their squad from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi Daredevils have decided to bring Mohammad Kaif as an assistant coach for IPL 2019.
