Before the 2019 auction, the IPL franchises have announced their retention and released the list of players. Some big names have been released by franchises due to poor performance in last year’s IPL.

1. Chennai Super Kings
The 2018 champions Chennai Super Kings have released only three players from their squad for IPL 2019.
The released players include England’s fast bowler Mark Wood, Kanishk Seth and Kshitiz Sharma. Mark Wood got only 1 match in the 2018 edition. These two youngsters could not get a game in the 2018 edition.
Chennai Super Kings have retained their core players from the 2018 edition. They have retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis, Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santer, David Willey, Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Sam Billings, Harbhajan Singh, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Dhruv Shorey, N Jagadeesan, Shardul Thakur, Monu Kumar and Chaitanya Bishnoi.
Most of the retained players did a great job for Chennai Super Kings in 2018 edition. They have not bought any player from the trade so far.

The runners-up of 2018 edition IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad have decided to release 9 players which include Sachin Baby, Tanmay Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha, Chris Jordan, Carlos Brathwaite, Alex Hales, Bipul Sharma, Mehedi Hasan. Sunrisers Hyderabad released Shikhar Dhawan from their squad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has bought Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem, young Abhishek Sharma. All these traded players were playing for Delhi Daredevils.
Sunrisers Hyderabad retained their core group of players who did brilliantly in the 2018 edition of IPL. David Warner, Yusuf Pathan, Rashid Khan, Shakib AL Hasan, Billy Stanlake, Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Manish Pandey, T Natarajan, Ricky Bhui, Sandeep Sharma, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi and Deepak Hooda.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has 5 slots available in which they are allowed to buy 3 Indian players and 2 overseas players.

The KKR franchise decided to release Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson, Tom Curran, Cameron Delport, Javon Searles, Ishank Jaggi, Aproov Wankhade, Vinay Kumar. Out of these released players, Tom Curran played 5 matches and picked 6 wickets. He scored 23 runs in 5 matches.
Mitchell Johnson was released due to poor performance in IPL 2018. He took only 2 wickets from 6 matches. Vinay Kumar played only 2 matches and picked only 2 wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders retained their core group which includes Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna.
The franchise has not yet bought any player in so far. KKR are allowed to buy 7 Indian and 5 overseas players from 12 available slots.

Jaydev Unadkat who was bought for 11.5 Crore by Rajasthan Royals, could not perform according to the billing, picked 11 wickets from 15 matches with a high economy of 9.65 runs per over. The dashing left-handed batsman short bought by Rajasthan Royals was released as he scored 115 runs from 7 matches.
Rajasthan Royals franchise has retained their top players Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Ish Sodhi, Ajinkya Rahane, K Gowtham, Sanju Samson, Sheryas Gopal, Aryaman Birla, S Midhun, Prashant Chopra, Stuart Binny, Rahul Tripathi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mahipal Lomror.
Jos Buttler was the top performer for Rajasthan Royals during the 2018 IPL. He took Rajasthan Royals to playoff stage with a match-winning knock.

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore finished 6th in the points table winning 6 matches and losing 8 matches with 12 points.
Royal Challengers Bangalore has released Mandeep Singh, Quinton de Kock, explosive batsman Brendon McCullum, England all-rounder Chris Woakes, Corey Anderson and Sarfaraz Khan.
They have bought in Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for this year’s IPL. In the 11 years of IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore reached the finals twice.

Kings XI Punjab has retained top players which include Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller, Ravichandran Ashwin, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
They have decided to bring Mandeep Singh in their squad. In the coaching staff, they have decided to bring Mike Hesson as their head coach while Virender Sehwag has decided to move on from Kings XI Punjab coaching staff.
With 15 available slots there for Kings XI Punjab, they are allowed to buy 11 Indian and 4 overseas players in the auction.

Delhi Daredevils have decided to release Gambhir, Maxwell, Jason Roy, Mohammad Shami, Dan Christian, Sayan Ghosh, Liam Plunkett, Junior Dala, Naman Ojha.
In the retained players list, Delhi Daredevils has gone with a young squad which include Prithvi Shaw, Sheryas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Manjot Kalra. Apart from youngsters, they have top quality T20 international players including Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Jayant Yadav, Rahul Tewatia, Harshal Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Sandeep Lamichhane, Avesh Khan.
They have removed Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan has been traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Delhi Daredevils.
