Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant has shared an update on the opener Prithvi Shaw, who was recently admitted to the hospital. Shaw, who made a breathtaking start to IPL 2022 campaign, reportedly suffered from typhoid.

A couple of days ago, the youngster shared a post from the hospital bed on his Instagram story where he thanked everyone for the wishes and prayers. While it was reported that Prithvi Shaw will miss the remaining games but he has joined the Delhi contingent.

With the crucial matches approaching, DC would want their players to be fit and in form. Throwing light on Prithvi Shaw’s fitness status at the end of the game against Punjab Kings, Rishabh Pant said, “I think he’s 50/50. We’ll know in a few days’ time.”

Meanwhile, in Shaw’s absence, DC tried KS Bharat as an opener alongside David Warner but that move didn’t pay much dividends. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan opened the innings against PBKS and scored a fiery 16-ball 32. However, he’s expected to make way once Prithvi Shaw regains fitness.

Delhi Capitals beat Punjab Kings to enter the top four in IPL 2022 points table

Delhi Capitals started off superbly in the powerplay, with Sarfaraz cutting loose with a 16-ball 32 cameo despite losing David Warner in the first ball of the match. Mitchell Marsh played another crucial hand, his second on the trot, to keep the innings together.

The Aussie all-rounder changed gears according to the situation of the game for his 48-ball 63, including three sixes. However, it was Liam Livingstone who produced a superlative effort with the ball, to turn things around. Arshdeep Singh also chipped in with crucial contributions with the ball to restrict Delhi to an average total of 159 runs.

While it looked like an easy chase after Jonny Bairstow’s breathtaking start but Punjab Kings lost the plot as the game progressed. Despite Jitesh Sharma‘s valiant efforts with the bat, Punjab fell short by 17 runs after some brilliant bowling from Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel.

The win has put Delhi Capitals in a strong position and a win in their last group game against Mumbai Indians will see them through to the playoffs.
