Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has praised team-mate KL Rahul’s calm demeanor and instinctive decision-making on the field. He played under KL Rahul recently, when the opener led India in a three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, both did not have a great series with the bat. The opener scored just 76 runs, while Iyer averaged 18.00 in three matches. However, Shreyas Iyer got an opportunity to roll over his arms in the series.
He had done this only twice before in ODIs – against West Indies in 2019 in Visakhapatnam and against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2017. During the South Africa series, Shreyas bowled 3.1 overs, conceding 22 runs.
Speaking on Red Bull Cricket Room on Clubhouse, Shreyas Iyer praised KL Rahul for his calm demeanor. He stated that the opener provides support to the players and has good instinctive decision-making skills. Shreyas said,
“It was nice to play under him. Firstly, he is an outstanding player. The confidence he carries on the field and in the team meetings, the support that he provides to the players it great. He’s got a very calm demeanor and his on-field decision-making is very instinctive. I really enjoyed playing under him.
“Also, he gave me three overs of bowling, which none of the captains previously had done. So yeah, he’s my favorite captain,” Shreyas Iyer added.
