Legendary Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan commends Rohit Sharma‘s leadership ahead of the warm-up fixture between India and Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday, June 1.

Expressing admiration for Rohit’s leadership over recent years, Shakib highlights the respect and fear opponents hold for the Indian skipper. He also lauds Rohit’s capability to turn the game in India’s favor single-handedly.

“I think the way he led India in the last few years was terrific. He has tremendous record as a captain. I think all the players respect him as a leader of the team. He’s someone who can take the game away from the opponent single-handedly,” said in a video shared by Star Sports.

Remarkably, Rohit boasts an impressive track record against Bangladesh in both ODIs and T20Is. In T20Is, he has accumulated 454 runs from 12 innings, maintaining an average of 37.83 and a strike rate of 141.43, including five half-centuries.

In ODIs, the 37-year-old has amassed 786 runs from 17 innings, averaging 56.14 with a strike rate of 97.27, comprising three centuries and as many half-centuries.

The Indian opener has notched up two vital centuries against Bangladesh, including a knock of 137 off 126 balls in the quarter-final of the ODI World Cup 2015 and 104 off 92 balls in the semi-final of the 2017 Champions Trophy. Rohit will be keen to maintain his excellent form against the Asian rivals in the upcoming match, carrying his momentum into the T20 World Cup.

In addition, both Rohit and Shakib hold the distinction of being the only players to participate in every edition of the T20 World Cup thus far. The Bangladeshi all-rounder leads as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, having claimed 47 wickets from 35 innings, boasting an average of 18.63 and an economy rate of 6.78.

Conversely, Rohit ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the competition, amassing 963 runs from 36 innings, with an average of 34.39 and a strike rate of 127.88. Both players aim to contribute to another memorable tournament edition and aid their teams in lifting the prestigious trophy.
