Former India cricketer Kapil Dev has shared his thoughts on Indian pacers getting frequently injured these days. He expressed that a bowler has to bowl a lot in the nets, to develop their muscle. Team India has been struggling with a frequent injuries to their pacers. Their lead bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for a long, while the likes of Hardik Pandya, and T Natarajan have faced the issue multiple times in the past.

In an interview with Gulf News, Kapil Dev explained the reason why the Indian pacers are getting injured so often. He expressed that they are not bowling enough in the nets, to prepare for the international level. The former Indian skipper said,

“The more you bowl in the net, the more your muscle will start developing. Today, I am told, that the pacers are allowed to bowl only 30 balls. That’s one reason. When they take so much stress to play at the professional level, then the body starts cracking. They have to bowl more than anything else.”

Adapting to everything is not easy, takes a toll on the body: Kapil Dev

Former India cricketer Kapil Dev further expressed that one of the main reasons behind the injuries is the extended cricket season. The Indian cricketers have back-to-back series lined up which is taking a toll on their bodies. Kapil Dev expressed that they have to be athletic, and play in various conditions. He said,

“Now the season extends to more than 10 months. The more you play the more injuries will happen. Cricket is not a simple game. One has to be athletic, use all the muscles, and play on different ground conditions, softness and hardness. Adapting to everything is not so easy, it takes a toll on the body. So you crack.”
