Senior Team India batter Shikhar Dhawan is known to have fun and his jovial nature has been on display since his arrival in international cricket. It was on show once again after his underwhelming response to a question during the pre-match press conference ahead of the second ODI against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma and Co. suffered a humiliating defeat in the first ODI at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. They will be under pressure to avoid a potential successive ODI series loss to the Bangla Tigers.

Shikhar Dhawan addressed reporters ahead of the second ODI and was on the receiving end of a unique question upfront where the reporter talked about the importance of a fresh start. The Delhi-born batter looked confused after struggling to hear it for the first time but came up with a witty response.

“Of course you’d be looking to make a fresh start?” – was the question.

Shikhar Dhawan replied by saying:

“Yeah, of course I can’t do an old start. Yes, it’s going to be a new start. We are looking forward to it. We are in a positive and good space.”

Dhawan was dismissed for seven runs off 17 deliveries in the first ODI. He was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz while trying to attempt a reverse sweep, which got deflected and crashed onto the stumps.

Shikhar Dhawan has been under immense scrutiny for his poor record in recent times. The southpaw managed only one half-century in the series against New Zealand, but eight of his last nine innings have come at a strike rate of less than 80.

“We know how to bounce back from these situations” – Shikhar Dhawan

Despite trailing 1-0 in the series, Shikhar Dhawan is confident that India will bounce back and stressed that they have been in these situations before. He reckoned that the think tank has addressed the shortcomings ahead of the 2nd ODI, Dhawan said:

“We are very very confident. This is not the first time we have lost the first game in the series. It’s quite normal. We know how to bounce back from these situations. Bangladesh is playing good cricket.”

The last match was an interesting game, a low-scoring one. In the end, they dragged the game away from us, this doesn’t happen that often. We analysed where we need to improve. We will try to create more impact in the coming games,” he concluded.

India and Bangladesh will lock horns in the second ODI of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 7.
