Indian opener Abhishek Sharma once again showcased his explosive batting prowess as he hammered a brilliant 75 off just 37 balls in India’s emphatic 41-run win over Bangladesh, securing their spot in the Asia Cup 2025 final.
The 25-year-old batter, known for his aggressive approach at the top, started the innings in sensational fashion by smashing Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Afridi for a boundary off the very first ball in their previous clash — a moment that caught global attention.
Speaking about his fearless intent, Sharma admitted, “I don’t think much before facing a bowler. My focus is always on watching the ball and reacting to it.” This approach, he said, allows him to stay calm under pressure and play his natural attacking game.
Instinctive Mindset and Father’s Mantra
Sharma revealed that his fearless batting is the result of a simple mindset and years of hard work in the nets. He explained that he rarely overthinks about the bowler or situation and instead trusts his instincts to guide his shot selection. “I have always believed that balls are meant to be hit,” he recalled, a mantra taught to him by his father during his early cricketing days. This philosophy, coupled with relentless practice sessions, has helped him develop a confident approach against the world’s best bowlers.
Despite the initial movement on the pitch during the Bangladesh match, Sharma played himself in before unleashing a flurry of boundaries — six fours and five sixes — dismantling the opposition’s bowling attack. His intent to dominate from the outset set the tone for India’s innings and put Bangladesh on the back foot early.
Strategic Moves and Team’s Clinical Performance
India, who opted to retain their playing XI for the crucial clash, also experimented with the batting order. Captain Suryakumar Yadav promoted Shivam Dube to the No. 3 position, a tactical move aimed at exploiting match-ups and the slow outfield. The strategy worked well as India posted a competitive total of 168/6.
Bangladesh, despite a promising start, faltered under scoreboard pressure and were bowled out for 127 in 19.3 overs. India’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured a comfortable victory, sealing their place in the Asia Cup final.
Reflecting on his performance, Abhishek reiterated that staying fearless and focused has been the cornerstone of his batting: “I trust my practice and my instincts — that’s what gives me confidence in the middle.”
