Team India secured their place in the 2023 Asia Cup final by defeating Sri Lanka in a thrilling match in Colombo earlier this week. Despite a modest total of 213 while batting first, India bounced back strongly, bowling out the hosts for 172.
Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who had previously taken five wickets against Pakistan, continued his impressive form with a four-wicket haul against Sri Lanka. This performance brought his total wicket count in the ongoing Asia Cup to 9 wickets in 4 matches.

Aakash Chopra, former India opener, made a significant statement about Kuldeep’s current status. He asserted that Kuldeep is presently the “top spinner” globally, highlighting that despite lacking a mystery factor, he consistently takes wickets.
“I feel Kuldeep is the best spinner in the world at the moment. If you see Kuldeep Yadav’s numbers, you say he is a proper wicket-taker. We are talking about spinners who have taken 150 ODI wickets. Firstly, 150 wickets is a very good number, it is not a small sample size,” Aakash said on his official YouTube channel.
“He has taken only 85 innings to pick up 150 wickets. He has a strike rate of 30.1. He is special because he is orthodox. If you talk about Ajantha Mendis and Rashid Khan, they had or have mystery. This guy has no mystery. He bowls normal leg-spin and googly and traps you with that itself.”
Team India will face Bangladesh in their last Super 4 match of the Asia Cup on Friday. Bangladesh has already been knocked out of the tournament following back-to-back Super 4 losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
