MS Dhoni retired from International cricket on Aug 15, 2020. However, when it comes to franchise cricket, he is still held in high regard especially on captaincy terms. So for many players across the world, playing under him is an experience they would like to cherish. Sunrisers Hyderabad leg-spinner Rashid Khan is one such player.
The Afghanistan bowler is one of the best spinners in world cricket at the moment, at least in the limited-overs format. In the IPL, he currently plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Nevertheless, he has recently stated that he yearns to play under MS Dhoni.
I don’t think there is anyone better than him to take advice from – Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan recently made an appearance on the YouTube channel ‘Cricast’. While he spoke about a lot of things, one thing that stood out was his dream to play under MS Dhoni. Rashid believes there’s no one better to take advice from than the legendary wicket-keeper, Dhoni himself.
“I have a dream that I want to play under MS Dhoni. Because the experience of playing under him is very important. For a bowler, the role of a wicketkeeper is very important and I don’t think there is anyone better than him to take advice from,” he said on the channel.
Although Rashid Khan hasn’t played under Dhoni as of yet, he revealed their post-match talks before leaving the ground. Dhoni seemingly suggested Rashid Khan to not field over aggressively as this might result in an injury.
“Every time after our matches, the discussions I have with him help me a lot. The last time he told me, ‘You have to be careful while fielding, you slide aggressively, throw the ball when it is not necessary. Since there is only one Rashid and people want to see you more, what’s going to happen if you get injured? Keep this in mind, I tell Jadeja the same thing’,” said Rashid.
Rashid Khan’s next assignment will be the upcoming Pakistan Super League, which starts on June 9. He will also turn up for the second phase of IPL 2021 to be held in UAE, following which he will play for Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup in October.
